Chakra Meditation
Chakra meditation is a visualization technique that uses the color of each chakra to stimulate and awaken that particular chakra.
Chakras are energy centers. The seven major chakras are located along the spine, from the base to the crown of the head. The health of each chakra is reflected in the health of the organs and systems in that particular area. Balancing the chakras balances you physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Each chakra is attuned to a different frequency of vibration, symbol, color, and sound. The following exercise shows you how to visualize the color of a chakra in order to stimulate it and assist it in opening. Here are the chakra meditation colors:
Root chakra (located at the tailbone): Red
Sex chakra (located just below navel): Orange
Navel chakra (located at the level of the solar plexus): Yellow
Heart chakra (located at the level of the sternum): Green
Throat chakra: Blue
Third eye chakra (located between your eyes): Indigo
Crown chakra (top of head): Violet
To practice the chakra balancing meditation, follow these instructions:
- Lie on your back, or sit cross-legged with your back straight.
- Close your eyes and take five deep slow breaths to help you relax and calm your mind.
- Visualize the color red at the base of your spine as a glowing ball of red light. As you imagine the red light emanating from that location, feel your breath moving in and out from this light. Do this visualization and breathing for one to two minutes.
- Repeat with each chakra, visualizing the associated color and breathing from it.
- Relax for a few minutes and then finish the meditation by affirming you are healthy, balanced, and at peace.
If you want to open and balance one particular chakra, you can simply focus on doing the meditation with the color for that specific chakra only. Use this method of chakra balancing judiciously, as you want to be physically able to handle the increased energy flow that can occur when chakras are activated and opened.
