Chakra meditation is a visualization technique that uses the color of each chakra to stimulate and awaken that particular chakra.
The seven major chakras are located on the spine, starting at the base and ending at the crown of the head. The health of each chakra is reflected in the health of the organs and systems in that particular area. Balancing the chakras balances you physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Each chakra is an energy center attuned to a different frequency of vibration, symbol, color, and sound. In the following exercise, you visualize the color of a chakra to stimulate it and help it open. Here are the chakra meditation colors:
- Root chakra (located at the tailbone): Red
- Sex chakra (located just below navel): Orange
- Navel chakra (located at the level of the solar plexus): Yellow
- Heart chakra (located at the level of the sternum): Green
- Throat chakra: Blue
- Third eye chakra (located between your eyes): Indigo
- Crown chakra (top of head): Violet
To practice the chakra balancing meditation, follow these instructions:
- Lie on your back, or sit with your back straight (either in a chair or cross-legged on the floor).
- Close your eyes and take five slow, deep breaths to help you relax and calm your mind.
- Visualize the color red at the base of your spine as a glowing ball of red light. Imagine the red light coming from that location, and feel your breath moving in and out of the light. Do this visualization and breathing for one to two minutes.
- Repeat with each chakra, visualizing the associated color and breathing from it.
- Relax for a few minutes. Then, to finish the meditation, affirm you are healthy, balanced, and at peace.
If you want to open and balance one particular chakra, you can simply focus on doing the meditation with the color for that specific chakra only.
Because this method of opening and activating chakras can dramatically increase energy flow, use this meditation only as you are physically able to handle the increased energy flow.
