Isn’t it great just how relaxed you feel after having a good laugh. Did you know that there are health benefits to laughing? One often hears people saying that laughter is the best medicine, and research has revealed that this is definitely the case.
Laughter and laughing is associated with happiness and being, or feeling, happy. Laughter is also very contagious and laughing causes a cumulative effect of amusement and joy. Laughing also helps us to cope with all the various challenges in life and relieves us of stress. If you have heard of laughter therapy, you will know that laughing helps to prevent and cure diseases such as ulcers, stokes, hypertension, diabetes, and heart ailments. Blood pressure is lowered and blood flow is increased thus taking esential nutrients to various parts of the body.
A good and hearty laugh will release enzymes, hormones, and natural antihistamines that help the normal functioning of various organs. Laughter also activates the T-cells, which are natural antibiotics that are produced in the body. The immune system will be stronger and enable you to fight off infections.
A good belly laugh also gives us a good workout and it can cause you to burn more calories. Not only the facial muscles will be affected, but also the muscles in the respiratory tract, shoulders, diaphragm, abdomen, back, and, believe it or not, the legs.
People with smiling faces always attract other people, so in this way laughter brings more people together and connects you with others. Laughter is very contagious, so if you bring more laughter into your own life, you will help those around you to improve their moods.
Instead of complaining about all of life’s frustrations, try to find some humour in them. Take a step back and look at a problem from another person’s perspective and make a ridiculous story from it. This is a guaranteed way to lighten your burden and your mood. There is nothing wrong with being light-hearted and silly.
If you are really down, then you actually need to force yourself to smile and fake laughter and you will still reap the positive effects. So come on everyone, experience great physical release and a cleansed feeling that only a good laugh can give you every day.
