What is EFT?

Based on new discoveries about the body’s subtle energies, Emotional Freedom Techniques has proven successful in thousands of clinical cases and can be used for many different problems. Gary Craig, the developer of this technique, was a student of Dr. Roger Callahan, who developed Thought Field Therapy (TFT). TFT was the first psychological acupressure therapy. Gary took many of Dr. Callahan’s concepts and simplified them into a system everyone can use.

EFT is based on the premise that “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.” Because physical pains and diseases are connected with emotions, your unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most physical pains and diseases.




When you feel unpleasant emotions and repress some aspect of the emotion rather than acknowledging it, it creates a disturbance in your body’s energy system where certain meridians get momentarily ‘stuck,’ and inhibit energy flow.

This stuck energy affects your life because on an energetic, subconscious, and cellular level, you store this response pattern. When you have other experiences that resemble the initial situation, you fall into a habitual response pattern, a response pattern that is often not healthy.

These unhealthy patterns can limit you, lower your self-esteem, cause you to over-react, weaken your resistance to physical illness, interfere with your peace of mind, limit your ability to love, and block your ability to succeed.

The goal of EFT is to move stuck energy and change unhealthy response patterns. You stimulate a few well-established energy points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. The points are usually the start or end points of acupuncture meridians. While you tap, you verbally state your physical or emotional issue of the moment and that even though you have this issue, you want to heal and accept yourself.
